After Life explores the extraordinary collection of stuffed animals by Henk Beijering, a highly skilled Dutch taxidermist with a career spanning more than 50 years. He started practicing the art of preparing, stuffing and mounting the skins of animals by the early age of six, learning the skills from his father. The first animal he worked on was a squirrel with a bold tail. Beijering, known for showing his animals in uncommon poses and combinations, used to have a small natural history museum in his barn. In After Life Carina Hesper (NL) presents all pieces from the personal collection of Beijering containing over 200 stuffed animals, from tiny birds to a two-headed lamb. This series and book is about the vulnerability of life and the beauty of death.
